Brizzly acquires WikiRank, launches wiki-style guide to trending topics

The deluge of information rushing by on Twitter may get a little less intimidating. Brizzly , the social media client from the team behind Google Reader, just launched a wiki-style guide to Twitter trending topics that stays long after hot stories fade from view. Each trending topic will get its own guide page that is a permanent source for up-to-date information where anybody can see the latest about a topic.

New York Times to offer Book Review as a standalone e-reader product

The New York Times has big digital plans for its Book Review supplement — one of the most popular and influential book review publications. The paper is planning to make Book Review an individual product (separate from the rest of the NYT’s e-reader content) on the three major e-reader platforms — Sony’s e-reader platform, Amazon’s Kindle, and Barnes and Noble’s Nook.

Beaten and bloodied, Real agrees to settle RealDVD fight

The RealDVD soap opera is finally over: RealNetworks has settled its litigation with the movie industry and has agreed to pay out $4.5 million to cover their costs related to the lawsuit. It has been a long and painful fight for the company, and RealNetworks has decided to move on rather than continue dragging it out. Real announced the settlement late Wednesday, noting that it plans to withdraw its appeal to a recent injunction imposed by the courts prohibiting the sale of RealDVD.

Detached teens use Internet and TV more—or vice versa?

Parents of Internet- or TV-addicted teens finally have confirmation of something they have long suspected: the more screen exposure teenagers get, the more detached they are from those around them. Those are the findings of a paper set to be published in the March issue of the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine , which examined the relationship between adolescent screen time and social involvement with parents and peers. Though the paper doesn’t quite say that Internet and TV are the cause of the detachment, it’s clear that the two are related

Aperture 3.0.1 available now in Software Update

Apple’s support forums have been abuzz with reports of memory leaks and issues with the new Faces functionality.
